Dr. Gorton

   

A Bay Area native, Dr. Gorton graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1992 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Biology and Social Sciences.

 

She graduated from Harvard School of Dental Medicine cum laude, receiving her dental license in 1996 and a Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) in 1997.  While at Harvard, she received the American Association of Orthodontics award for craniofacial research, and the Harvard Odontological Society award for excellence in research.

 

She completed her orthodontic residency training at the University of California at San Francisco, receiving both a Masters of Science in Oral Biology and a Certificate of Orthodontics in 2001. She now helps teach a course at UCSF for the orthodontic residents and serves as a mentor for UCSF orthodontic residents who rotate through the office 

to observe treatment of orthodontic patients in a private practice setting.

 

In 2003, her research article on preventing decay in patients with braces was published in the American Journal of Orthodontics.  More recently, she is certified by the American Board of Orthodontics.

 

Dr Gorton has shown a strong committment to philanthropy for many years. Currently, she donates her time to provide general dentistry for the underserved at the Marin County Dental Services Clinic. Also, she treats pro bono orthodontic cases that have been screened by the Marin County Dental Care Foundation. 

 

Dr. Gorton is a past president of the Marin County Dental Society.  Additionally, she is an active member of the World Federation of Orthodontics, the European Orthodontic Society, the American Association of Orthodontics, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, the Hispanic Dental Association, the California Dental Association as well as the Marin County Dental Society where she served as a member of the board. She is also a life member of the CAL Alumni Association, the Harvard Alumni Association and the UCSF Alumni Association.

 

Dr. Gorton practiced orthodontics in Zurich, Switzerland, before partnering with Dr. Schmohl.  Her husband Walter is from Switzerland, and together they enjoy traveling, snowboarding/skiing, rock climbing, and hiking and they compete in Masters Swimming on a national level.
